Santi's first lap
A Fast One racing first birthday in Winnetka, built around a backdrop we made in three layers, with a checkered board and a curved race track on the front.

Before the trash truck, there was the race track. For Santi’s first birthday we took over a Winnetka backyard with a Fast One theme, checkered flags everywhere, and a backdrop we built up in three layers. He came back to us a year later for the trash truck party, which we choose to take as a good review.

The signature moment
A backdrop built in three layers
The backdrop was the whole party. We built it up in three layers. A set of plain arched boards went in at the back, a checkered board layered in front of those, and then a curved race track, cut and painted, sat right at the front with balloons banked underneath it like scenery.
It took longer than anything else we did that day, and it is the thing every guest photographed. Depth is what makes a backdrop look built rather than bought, and you only get depth by layering.
The theme
A fast one
He was turning one, so the whole thing leaned into the pun. Crossed checkered flags, a sign that read Santi's First Lap Around the Track, a number one on everything, and a little cream race car with his name painted on the side.
For the smallest guests we set up a soft play area and a white bounce house behind a low picket fence, so the crawling and toddling crowd had somewhere of their own to burn off cake.

Let’s celebrate
Something like this, but yours.
Tell us about your celebration. We can’t wait to hear about it.
